Dur­ing their retire­ment, for­mer teach­ers René and Annie Favre explored the world. Their trav­els are first and fore­most encoun­ters, the inter­ests of enthu­si­asts. A his­to­ry book of far­away lands for René, and a fan­tas­tic but tan­gi­ble herbar­i­um for Annie. But when they return from these expe­di­tions, it’s their house that changes. The old ren­o­vat­ed barn at 132 Route de la Fruitière has been giv­en a final chrysalis. The walls are filled with colour­ful objects and prints of exot­ic neg­a­tives. The stones here are filled with prints from else­where. With­out intend­ing to, René and Annie have turned 132 Route de la Fruitière into a muse­um inhab­it­ed by its cura­tors. Ailleurs Ici is their cat­a­logue, retrac­ing each of René and Annie’s jour­neys through objects as mys­ti­cal as they are foreign.
